Similar but not the same

I keep hearing people say all phones are the same, and honestly, I’m always tempted to explain why I kinda agree but also don’t at the same time. Like, look at phones nowadays — just glass slabs with no buttons, no keyboard, nothing that really stands out. Back in the day, companies actually innovated.

This totally reminds me of this wild theory I learned about recently called 'Carcinization'. Basically, it’s this evolution thing where different species that aren't even related end up evolving into something crab-shaped because it's like the most optimized form for survival. So yeah, we've got a bunch of crabs now that look super similar but aren't really the same.

Phones? Same story. When smartphones first dropped, the market was filled with every possible shape and color — loads of buttons, wild features, straight-up rainbow options. It was a whole vibe. But then, slowly, they started morphing, losing that uniqueness, and ended up becoming this optimized version of themselves.

And now here we are, in 2024, holding these magic glass rectangles—touchscreen, barely any buttons, just the final form of what all those wacky devices used to be. They're different, sure, but like... basically the same.

But honestly? I’m not mad. Phones have evolved to fit the world we live in. We just gotta appreciate the glow-up.
